API 580 Risk Based inspection

Introduction

API-580: Introduction to Risk Based Inspection (RBI) Methodologies and Practices in Refineries, Gas, Oil & Petrochemical Facilities (API Exam Preparation Training)

Course Description

This course presents the general methodology of Risk Based Inspection, identifies the key elements of an RBI program, and discusses how to implement an RBI program. The course will include a discussion on identification of API RP 571 damage mechanisms, risk management, and risk mitigation strategies.  Requirements for input data and information, and the roles of the RBI Assessment Team will be described. Approaches to levels of RBI assessment and basis for implementation will be examined.

This course is designed to train individuals who are interested in obtaining the API 580 RBI Inspector Certification, as well as those who are seeking knowledge of Risk Based Inspection requirements.

The exercise will give delegates the opportunity to key elements for implementation of an RBI system. The course instructor is independent of any commercial organization and the course notes are applicable to all commercially available RBI computer systems. No software will be used in this course.

  • Give emphasis on the materials, equipment records and quality & validation in the data & information collection for RBI assessment
  • Interpret the definitions and acronyms used in Risk Based Inspection (RBI) and determine its
  • purpose, scope, approaches and planning process
  • Recognize the basic concepts of RBI and determine goals, strategies & selection of assessment method in the planning of RBI assessment
  • Participate in discussion on factors affecting probability of failure and list the RBI qualitative determination of probability category
  • Determine the basis and types of analysis in assessing the consequence of failure, enumerate the types of consequence damage categories and apply the cost calculations for consequence damage
  • Develop an understanding on the deterioration mechanisms including the RBI damage mitigation in process facilities
  • Explain the proper procedure for risk determination, assessment and management including risk management decisions & risk matrix
  • Recognize the need for risk management with inspection activities in uncertainties and risk management opportunities as well as apply the right inspection strategy based on risk assessment
  • Enumerate the roles, responsibilities, training and qualifications of each team member, be familiar in using the API RBI matrix and give emphasis on reassessing and updating assessment
  • Illustrate the right methodology in RBI documentation and record keeping to come up with accurate risk assessment & mitigation results
